Guidelines for Contributors

  1. Manuscripts are accepted for review on the understanding that they have not been published in English and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere.
  2. All papers must be in English and we prefer pieces of a moderate length (5,000 to 10,000 words including notes).
  3. In general, Musica Humana follows the recommendations of The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. (Chicago and London: University of Chicago Press, 2003). Musica Humana uses the author-date documentation system for in-text citations in conformity with the guidelines given in chapter 16 of the manual. The author’s name is followed by the year of publication in parentheses, and, if required, the page number is given after comma following the year of publication: e.g., (Bohlman 1993, 411); (Cross 1999); (Gjerdingen 1973, 27).
  4. Please use endnotes rather than footnotes and endnotes should be kept to a minimum, reserved only for discursive notes. The submitted paper should include with a complete list of sources cited in the text, entitled “References.” References should be arranged in alphabetical order of the names of the authors and editors: e.g.,

  5. Manuscripts must be typed double-spaced (including notes, references, and captions for illustrations).
  6. All submissions should include:
    • A cover letter providing author’s name, a brief biographical data, and full contact information, including mailing address, phone number, and email address;

    • Musical examples, figures, and tables (see clause 8 below);
    • An abstract of no more than 100 words (see clause 9 below).
  7. Please submit the entire document as a Microsoft Word file by email at musicahumanajournal@gmail.com.
